by Nathan'ette Burdine: June 18, 2014

Yesterday, President Obama announced that U.S. Special Forces caught Ahmed Abu Khatallah.

Khatallah is one of the suspects allegedly involved in the September 11, 2012, deadly attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods, and Glen Doherty were killed during the attacks.

The attacks marked the first time, in over thirty years, that a U.S. ambassador had been killed.

The BBC reported that Khatallah was caught on Sunday, June 15, 2014, during an overnight raid in Benghazi, Libya.

In response to Khatallah’s capture, President Obama said, “The United States has an unwavering commitment to bring to justice those responsible for harming Americans. Since the deadly attacks on our facilities in Benghazi, I have made it a priority to find and bring to justice those responsible for the deaths of four brave Americans-We will remain vigilant against all acts of terrorism, and we will continue to prioritize the protection of our service-members and civilians overseas.”
